Disappointing Service and Poor Finishes – Not a Luxury Experience If you’re looking for a luxury stay, Ava Cancun is not the place for you. From the moment we arrived, the experience was frustrating. Walking into the lobby, staff were casually exiting through the same doors we were entering, which felt chaotic and unwelcoming. Check-In Nightmare After a long flight, we were met with a long check-in line and plenty of available staff who simply chose not to help. Instead, one employee stood off to the side, joking and laughing with colleagues while we waited. When I approached another check-in counter and politely asked if they could assist me, the staff member flat-out refused—only to check in two women just 30 seconds later. When someone else finally assisted me, the first staff member never even looked me in the eye. That lack of professionalism set the tone for the rest of our stay. Hotel Finishes and Maintenance – Below Standard The hotel itself has obvious unfinished details, as many other reviews have mentioned. The carpet near the elevators is incomplete, and the elevators are a disaster—cheap, constantly breaking, and dirty. The overall look of the resort lacks the polish you’d expect from a high-end destination. All-Inclusive? More Like All-Exclusive When booking an all-inclusive, I don’t expect to have to beg for restaurant reservations. It was ridiculous how much we had to tip just to secure a spot. The buffet dinner was below average, and when we tried the Italian restaurant, they refused to take a reservation for more than four people at 6 PM—so we split our group. When we walked in, the place was nearly empty! What kind of system is that? The only decent dining experience was at Black Iron, which I’d call the best of the worst. Breakfast was okay—we tried both the buffet and the Mexican restaurant, and neither was bad, but nothing special. The One Saving Grace – The Pool The pool area is the highlight of the resort. We attended a Sunday pool party, and it was fantastic—great energy, music, and a lively atmosphere. If I ever came back, it would only be for the pool experience. Final Thoughts We’ve stayed at many resorts, and Ava Cancun seriously lacks trained customer service, organization, and quality finishes. If management focused on improving service standards, better maintenance, and a fair restaurant booking process, it could be a much better experience. But as it stands, I wouldn’t recommend this resort if you’re expecting luxury or excellent hospitality. Rating: 3/5 – Only for the pool.
