Capital Hotel（the Forbidden City，Tiananmen）

Had to upgrade the room because initial booked room faced a wall and the smell was not good.

The Capital Hotel sits at a very close distance to Tian’anmen Square, albeit not directly on Chang’an Avenue. The room was quite spacious but fixtures need a bit more attention and maintenance (such as a broken switch on the bedside consolle). Bathroom is spacious and all amenities are given. The room was in the B Building and defined as “Sunshade Room”: this means that the window looks onto a wall which is not the best view. The staff was ok but not comparable to other hotel staff such as at the Beijing Hotel or Minzu Hotel. (All of them are the same type of Chinese Owned and Run Hotel). Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of items.

Great choice if you want to be close to most important sites in Beijing.

This is an large and well known hotel in the historic center of Beijing, it is ideal for those who need to be stay within a walking distance to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and many national institutions and it has a rich and delicious breakfast and a wide array of services and restaurants. However, there are several trade offs you should take into consideration: 1. Many of the staff members don't speak English, including some of the receptionsts. 2. The rooms are significantly older than those I encountered anywhere else, even though it's considered a 5 star hotel. 3. Amenities such as toothbrush, comb etc are not provided. 4. The closest metro station is about 1km away. Unless you need to stay especially close to the Forbidden City, I would recommend booking a more modern hotel in a different area with better value for money.

The room that we had was decent. Location is very good. I also enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel.  The negative: front desk staffs, from what I have experienced, do not speak english fluent enough to ensure smooth communication. Considering that this establishment is a 5-star hotel in the capital city, I expected more.

Good, not perfect but good.

Second time staying, Hotel location is very near the Tiananmen Square, and its perfect for autumn in Beijing. Rooms are spacious, its a little old, but we are not too fuzzy, breakfast was acceptable but for something that you would go crazy over. Four restaurants are available within the hotel varying from Chinese, seafood hotpot, Japanese and German cuisines. There's a good collection of jade ornaments and art pieces to buy if you have deep pockets. There are many places within the hotel where you could take some awesome photos and also hotel has professional photographers available. We extended our stay for 2 more days and definitely will choose to stay here again. Staffs are very friendly especially the ladies who were at the lobby foyer are cafes, i hope the hotel management recognises their excellent services.

This hotel was a really good surprise as most of the review described it as old. While it is an old hotel, it seems to have been renovated recently and the bed are comfortable and the room spacious. I would just say that the carpet through the rooms and corridor should be remove or replaced as not sure if the employees worked there realised it but there are a damped and wee smell through the hotel. Apart from that, I highly recommend this hotel for a stay as it offers everything you need. The breakfast was also a great surprised . My kids enjoyed the food and adults love the selection on offer. Next time we come back to Beijing we will stay here again.
