I booked a room with wheelchair accessible amenities. Website says 3 pm check in. I got there at 2:30 and was told room is not ready. Will be ready in 30 min. No problem, since check in is at 3 I’m good with that. At 3 pm lobby assistant doesn’t say anything to us although she sees us sitting in plain sight with our suitcases. At 3:05 I walk up to the counter and ask if the room is ready. No she says give us another 15 minutes. Not cool but I’m thinking ok maybe because it’s handicap accessible it takes a bit longer. Room wasn’t ready until 3:45 but being that this was a special weekend of celebration for our elderly frail loved one I decided I would suck it up and not let it ruin it for us. Room has two queen size beds and the only accessible thing for a wheelchair was the bathroom. The wheelchair could not go into the rest of the room. This was frustrating but luckily a family member had booked a room right across the road at Holiday Inn Express and had asked for a wheelchair accessible room as well. That room was three times bigger than the one I got and the bathroom was double the size so our family member with the wheelchair ended up having to stay over at the Holiday Inn instead of with me. As upsetting as that was I took a deep breath and decided I will let it go. But what broke the camels back and the reason for this post is this….the wheelchair accessible bathroom turned out to be a nightmare. The water from showering comes out all over the bathroom and the hallway. We literally had 3 inches of water all over the floor. The lip they have is almost non existent and does nothing to keep the water inside the shower floor. It is almost flushed with the rest of bathroom! The curtain liner is useless. It took all of the hotels towels to clean up the mess. And we had to ring them out several times to keep cleaning up the water. It flooded all the floor. We complained to the front desk attendant and with a no concern attitude she admitted that they knew about it being an issue and that they have to put a higher lip/barrier to prevent the water coming out but they just haven’t done it! Oh wow!! Seriously?? And you let people stay there knowing the risk of someone getting seriously hurt and injured?? A handicap accesible room?? What the hell??? My disbelief did not phase her at all, no apology, no worried look, nothing. Her last comment to us was…well I’ll let them know again. Unbelievable! Thank God my family member stayed at the Holiday Inn. This could of been a trip to the hospital with very serious injuries that could even turn fatal when it has to do with an elderly frail person. I will push this to headquarters. This is unacceptable and needs immediate attention. So upset!!!
