Abbey House Hotel

Although not especially frequently, I've been staying at the Abbey for over 30 years and it remains one of my favourite hotels in the world. The staff are always friendly and attentive and the building itself is truly beautiful, as are the grounds. I stayed in the Winter Suite which I would certainly recommend, having stayed there several times before. Not necessary the largest suite ever but nicely put together and very in keeping with the building as a whole. I had a fantastic dinner at Oscars, the in house restaurant; duck and black pudding terrine followed by Beef Wellington. Both top class. One thing that has not changed over the years is the quality of the breakfasts which are exceptionally good. If you are anywhere in Cumbria, you should make the effort to stay here.

Lovely hotel and extremely picturesque. Staff are very good, place is very clean and tidy and very good breakfast choices. Waiting on staff are really effective and polite too. Just couldn't give 5 stars as it was a little noisy. I had a room above the main doors and people outside chatting waiting for taxis and staff emptying trash skips through there made quite a lot of noise Would return just would want a different room

A lovely stop over following a celebratory event with colleagues. We live locally and enjoy the treat on such occasions . Lovely hotel and grounds. Nice quiet and spacious suite at a good price. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Free parking.

What a wonderful hotel, very impressive and grand building, set in beautiful grounds which you can explore . The rooms are large and very comfortable and decorated to high standard, the price included breakfast which was fabulous. Staff friendly and helpful. Cant fault this place would definitely recommend.

This was our 4th time here. We cannot fault the hotel in general - the rooms are absolutely amazing. You feel like a King and Queen for a day in them. We were given Ullswater room. We've stayed in Ullswater before so we knew what to expect. What we did not bargain for, was the horrendous noise from the people attending the Charity Ball in the function suite as they were all leaving the hotel or making their way back to their rooms. We are no killjoys, but honestly - the location of the Ullswater room, being the only bedroom in the main corridor on the ground floor between the reception and the function area, and right beside the public toilets and lift, meant we were subjected to everyone leaving the function around midnight all tromping past our door singing at the top of their voices, banging on our door, and generally making a complete nuisance of themselves. We felt reception staff could perhaps have asked them to keep the noise down slightly as they must have heard it all. I dont mind general noise if your room is above a function suite, or the music etc, but this was just downright rudeness from the partygoers. It did somewhat ruin what was supposed to be a lovely birthday celebration. We spoke to reception when checking out and was told "sorry about that, but a function letter was sent out to everyone". That may be so (we didn't get anything other than the generic email that always warns you a function "may" be on when you are staying), but a function letter does not really mean you should have people bang on your door shouting and yelling after midnight. That is something we would expect from a cheap hotel in Spain, not a hotel of this calibre. With that aside, we really do love this hotel. It is so cosy and comfortable. The location is beautiful, out in the countryside.

We loved this hotel. The room was lovely and very comfortable- we’d definitely stay there again. The check in process was very efficient and the food at Oscar’s was very very good. The hotel has lovely grounds and we walked to see Furness abbey in the morning, which is definitely worth visiting

We were married at Abbey House in September. Amazing, the hotel, gardens, the wedding team Lauren, Laura, Rob and the whole team were excellent. Our friends and family have all let us know how they enjoyed the day, so chilled, beautiful thank you

We have been visiting Abbey House for many years now and never get bored of the place. ALL the staff are polite, friendly and professional. The hotel and it's grounds are stunning with the rooms never failing to dissapoint, for us it's a little gem in the lake district. Thank you 👍

Abbey house is mine and my partners favourite place, been here many times and are due to be married here next year, eeeeek! Just arrived back from a weekend here and everything was perfect. All the staff go above and beyond to make your stay special, the food is delicious and the grounds around the hotel are beautiful and the rooms are stunning especially the suites. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away or planning on getting married, it really is perfect! x A big thanks to Lauren our wedding coordinator for just being amazing.
