Udara Bali Yoga Detox Spa is a true gem. One of my favorite places on the planet! I have travelled all over the world and stayed in many places ranging from rugged to five star hotels, but there is nothing like Udara. Everyday there is a smorgasbord of options for physical growth and personal healing. With over a dozen different daily offerings, the classes/events schedule is expansive and diverse. We enjoyed such classes as hatha yoga, aerial yoga, yin yoga, and water yoga. There were multiple types of gong meditations, sound healings and quantum breath work. We also participated in kirtan, cocoa ceremony and ecstatic dance. The level of attention and care from the faculty and staff is superb. It is a relatively small retreat center, so you can get to know the other guests should you choose to sit at the community dining table, yet there is enough space for privacy as well. It is an international haven. During our one week visit we met people from: Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Turkey, Ireland, Russia and USA. The classes and offerings are led by skilled professionals who all manage to teach from the heart. There is a variety to choose from each day, so there is definitely something for everyone. The meals are exquisite. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. I am vegetarian and my husband is vegan. There were ample options for us on the menu, and we never had a meal we weren’t delighted with. We had a lovely room with a comfortable bed. The sound of the ocean’s waves lulled us to sleep each night. The beauty and attention to detail is what makes Udara special. The entire place is like a work of art. Conscious thought and awareness is evident everywhere. From the golden painted dome infused with rose quartz crystals, to the ornamental carvings and latticework around the buildings, to the small, colorful daily shrine offerings. The pools are a world of their own. A maze of mythic creatures and monkeys surround the small warm pools with steam, tiny waterfalls and hidden grottos. Beautiful yoga shalas with wooden floors that overlook the beach, make practicing yoga even more serene. During our visit, the owner and management team were regularly onsite gently overseeing operations to maintain the high standard and quality of service. There is a palpable sense of co-operation and camaraderie among the staff, as if they are all part of one big happy family. No wonder it was so easy to surrender to a sense of comfort, safety and relaxation in this place. I was initially concerned about the uneven pathways and low-hanging entryways into the cathedral-like domes, until I realized the intentionality in the buildings’ designs. The retreat center invites mindfulness and awareness even through its structure. This is no run-of-the-mill vacation getaway. Udara is a sacred healing place that honors mind/body/spirit connection and renewal. If you are
