Lau's Gateway

Lau's Getaway is by far the best place to stay in Niue. It is one of the very few places right on the cliff and with amazing views. The villas are very spacious and well equipped, and the hosts are very friendly and always available. It is a 2mn drive from the Matavai resort so when you want the benefits of a hotel, it is at your doorstep and the hosts have a deal with them so you can go when you want.

Lau's Getaway was an amazing spot in the most beautiful of places. Their website accurately described the accommodation. Your hosts Avi and Lau also live on site and will look after you, plus are more than willing to help with any questions or suggestions for who to contact for tours or just stuff. The accommodation is set up with 2 floors and both have verandas with full sliding doors, which create a lovely breeze. The bed (upstairs) and chairs (downstairs) are very comfortable to use and with air conditioning in the bedroom sleep was no issue. The kitchen had everything we needed, and all appliances are in working order. This is a tropical location and therefore as expected we saw a few lizards but hey that's part of the fun! We rented the car when we booked accommodation was a great little Kia Sportage which got us around the island with no problems at all, you need a car in Niue. Overall great accommodation, great location, wonderful hosts and no problems at all.

Whales on your doorstep . Literally . During our fabulous stay we saw whales almost every day - some only 100m from our deck . And heard their songs ! Also spinner dolphins almost daily putting on incredibly aerial displays . Who needs tv or wifi ( although there are both ) when you have ringside seats to the only show in town . Lau’s Getaway is perfect . Self catering but fully serviced three times a week . Such a bonus . Decks from both levels so you don’t lose track of the sealife swimming by and the best views . Kitchen has all you need to self cater - and I strongly suggest you factor that in if you’re staying longer than a week . Good size fridge freezer to store what you bring with you ( and do bring food with you including fresh fruit and veg which is allowed by customs as long as not home grown ) . Generous breakfast pack and a bottle of wine to welcome you as well as fresh coconut . Much appreciated. Avi and Lau are there for any questions, but you have all the privacy you want . Make sure you stop by their restaurant- Kai Iki . Just great . And you get a generous discount too . You could stay cheaper , but you’ll never get a view like this - or the opportunity of a lifetime to see. whales sailing by . It’s paradise . Highly recommended and we will be back . Lau’s Getaway was absolutely perfect. It has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The first two days we were in Niue it rained almost non-stop so we spent quite a bit of time in the villa but there is so much space that the rain didn’t matter at all. The kind size bed is one of the comfiest I’ve slept in. There was an extra blanket if required which was nice because coming from Dunedin I’m used to having lots of weight on me from blankets when I sleep. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare meals. Avi provides an incredible breakfast basket with the necessities which is so helpful. We brought bacon to Niue with us and had bacon and eggs for breakfast several times using the eggs and bread provided by Avi. The view from the two balconies is out of this world. It was where we spent the majority of our time when we were at the villa watching the ocean and the dolphins that swim past almost every day during the day and watching the stars at night. The Scenic Circle resort is about 900 metres down the road which was handy for happy hour, takeaway pizza or a meal out. Town is about a 10-15 minute drive, with the airport only a five minute drive. We hired a car from Avi and this was such a must. We loved that everyone waved as we drove past and the layer back speed limits really got us into holiday mode. Finally my partner lost his phone early in the trip however by word of mouth Avi managed to find this for us (sadly just after we left) and has posted this back. Thank you so much Avi for making this an incredible holiday we will never forget. We loved our time in Niue and staying at Lau’s Getaway. We will definitely be back.

Simply magic!! We loved every moment at Lau's Getaway. The views, sunsets, brilliant colours of the ocean were breathtaking. We enjoyed coffee every morning watching the whales, and dolphins play. All our needs were met, in this beautiful piece of paradise. We will definitely be back.

It has to be one of the highlights of our South Pacific Islands tour. Lau's Getaway was the perfect place to enjoy this pristine island. Excellent viewing decks both on the ground floor and 1st floor to marvel at the dolphins splashing away and bluer than blue waters crashing over the reef. The villa was spotless and had everything to make a comfortable stay. Avi, the owner organised a vehicle for the week which is essential if you want to explore this small but beautiful island. Niue is a small country, so you will not get fast food joints, high rise hotels, and hoards of travellers. Long may that continue. We certainly will not forget our wonderful week...
