We came to Astoria to meet some family and relax , we love the area there is so much to do and many places to thrift which is a favorite activity of my sister and myself. We loved the art deco architecture of this hotel. They are 100 years old this year. The breakfast was good that we had each morning and the rooms are fairly priced and comfortable but we were absolutely tickled with the banter of the check in clerks , an outgoing man with a contagious smile contrasted with his tiny coworker with her long long ponytail. They made us laugh with their light hearted volley and it was clear they enjoy what they are doing and this really resonated with us for the whole stay. We encountered each clerk separately later in the trip and they greet people like you’ve been old friends. Times have been difficult for the world and it is such a breath of fresh air to have such enjoyable interactions in hospitality. The beds are comfy , and our room was pristine. Parking was not an issue at all but on Sundays there is a maker market and you can’t park in any of the parking you normally can. Worst case we had to walk three blocks away which was fine because your employees recommended Blue Scorcher which we needed to work off anyway. There is so much wildlife in the area and as I said before the thrifting is abundant and there are charming stores on every block. For food we enjoyed going to the brewery by the waterfront fort George and we also enjoyed a place called Merry Time. The bartender was really nice and we wish we had more time to spend there and bring the bubbles to watch sports while we sip cocktails. The weather was not great but not awful either and the sun made a few appearances. There is a roof top deck at the hotel that offers a panoramic view of the charming city. We did not get to see the column but want to come back and if we do we will absolutely book this hotel again and make more time to visit old and new places to shop and eat. Ultimately though, we were steered toward all the shops and dining options by the staff at the hotel. This is just a really fun group , and if you ask, the small one with the big laugh and the long long ponytail (we are so bad with names many apologies ) she will show you every rainbow picture she took and gets excited showing like it’s the first time she’s seen it. It’s adorable , unusual and so very refreshing. The young man was also serving breakfast one day and we enjoyed listening to him sing along to the gospel style music playing in the lobby. We didn’t get to meet too many more of their staff but it is clear this company has hand picked a staff that can make a tired stranger feel right at home. My sister and I are sure the entire team must be equally as wonderful. Long story short , wonderful beds , superior service , charming accommodations and beautiful location. Cannot say enough. I hope they see this. Thank you Hotel Elliott and thank you Astoria.
