Caramelo Marina Calan Bosch

Caramelo has had an extensive and very good quality refurb over the closed season. It is truly a lovely hotel with friendly and efficient staff, including Leah the lifeguard and bar staff. The food? Next level. Executive chef Babis Papadopoulos has created an exceptional menu, both for breakfast and especially, for the al a carte restaurant. It’s impressive! Always ready to adapt a dish to your dietary requirements e.g. vegetarian. The food Babis created was exceptional and for the first time ever, home or abroad, I actually had amazing vegetarian food made with a twist adopted from the a la carte menu. Prices are also very competitive for high quality dining. Caramelo is well located for beautiful coastal walks among other things and short is just a short ride beautiful Ciutadella.

We chose this hotel as the brochure said it had been renovated new for 2025. Well the hotel had obviously been done to a high standard, the decor was beautiful. The restaurant served a fabulous array of food for breakfast. There was one night we ate in the hotel restaurant as it was stormy and torrential rain. The food was ok, I’m presuming the chefs are understandably nervous and want to make a good impression but the food was average and the menu was limited. Unfortunately with the heavy rain the doors leaked and water was leaking in under several doors. The staff were really good . There continued to be work being undertaken in various parts of the hotel, which was fine apart from if you wanted a siesta, then it was frustrating listening to drilling and hammering. The hotel is perfectly situated and close to the marine and beach. The sunbeds are a delight with comfy cushions. All in all a lovely adult only hotel, staff helpful and pleasant.

Recently refurbished for 2025. Opened before all teething issued sorted out. Will be great when they have. Decor beautiful in rooms and public areas .Food excellent Location is brilliant, close to the Marina and small beach. Sadly fell far short on many other issues. The lift has been out of action for most of our stay, not funny when you are on 2nd or 3rd floor. Flooding in dining room, ladies ground floor toilets out of action( 1 didn't have a lock on door and no hand drier only facial tissues the 2nd had a loo but no hand basins, meaning walking up to 3rd floor for bathroom breaks) No welcome drink ! Tomorrow guests can't use pool area between 8am and 10am( the breakfast slot) due to filming for new website. I think they could have offered guests some gesture to compensate for inconveniences. Building works are still ongoing here ,hopefully they get it right soon.

Positiv: schöne große Suite (mit sep. Schlafzimmer) in der 3. Etage (oberste Etage) und tollem Ausblick aufs Mittelmeer. Die Suite war modern eingerichtet, TV (4 dt. Programme - darunter Kinderkanal (wozu wenn es ein Erwachsenhotel ist?)) im Schlaf- und Wohnzimmer. Die Betten sehr bequem und mit schöner Bettwäsche. Es gibt einen kleinen Kühlschrank und auf Nachfrage bekamen wir einen Wasserkocher (keine Espressomaschine in der Suite?) Housekeeping war top. Suite war sehr sauber. Frühstücksbuffet, von der Auswahl, sehr gut. Servicepersonal zum Frühstück sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich! Negativ: Im innenliegenden Badzimmer konnte die Lüftung auch nach 1 Woche nicht repariert werden. (Handwerker fanden Fehler nicht). Ich nehme an, dass spätestens nach der Sommersaison im Bad Schimmelflecken sind. Die Klimaanlage ist nur zum Kühlen, also bei kühleren Temperaturen im Frühjahr ist es bzw. bleibt es im Zimmer/Suite kalt. Im Hotelflur passen die Fensterscheiben nicht in den Rahmen (so was habe ich noch nie gesehen). Es klafft eine Lücke von 3-4 cm zwischen Scheibe und Rahmen. Die Scharniere von den Fenstern sind teilweise verrostet. Eine Nacht regnete es, so stand im Hotel Flur das Wasser. Da wir in der obersten Etage waren muss auch Wasser vom Dach durchgesickert sein, denn es tropfte außerdem aus den Deckenlampen im Flur. Das größte Manko war der Lift, welcher sehr oft außer Betrieb war. Von 1 Woche Aufenthalt waren er sicher 5 Tage außer Betrieb. Die Gäste mussten das Gepäck nach oben schleppen. So sind auch sicher die abgesprungenen neuen Fließen im Treppenhaus zu erklären. Am Pool wurde man den ganzen Tag mit lauter Jazz Musik beschallt, waren deshalb oft am nahe gelegenen Strand (ca. 250 m). Hotel bietet keinerlei Sportmöglichkeiten. Außenanlagen sind noch nicht fertig gestellt. Der angebotene Zimmerwechsel, auf Grund der Lüftung und das Lift-Problem, wurde von uns abgelehnt, da diese Suite viel kleiner war, Blick zum Parkplatz hatte und noch nicht fertig renoviert war. Wir waren die 1. Gäste nach Neueröffnung/Renovierung. Uns war klar, dass es vielleicht zu kleinen Abstrichen kommen kann, aber hier ist noch sehr viel zu tun, um 4 Sterne gerecht zu werden. Die I-Tüpfelchen war unsere frühe Abreise (5 Uhr holte uns der Transferbus ab) ＞ das Hotel war nicht in der Lage uns eine Frühstücksbox anzubieten...

You're never quite sure what you will get when you book 3 Star accommodation. This was excellent! Yes, there were a some chipped paint work in the communal areas, and some cracked tiles around the pool, but overall this was good value and somewhere we would book again. Our room was a good size, neat, tidy and clean. It had been recently decorated as there were no scuffs on the walls or paintwork. The AC unit worked very well and cooled the room quickly. House keeping changed the towels every day, and bedding every other day. No complaints at all. The shower always had hot water and had powerful water pressure. The kitchen had a toaster, microwave, fridge and a two ring hob. A tea towel is provided to dry up, but no washing up liquid or cloth/scrubby. Tip - take a little bottle of washing up liquid and cloth/scrubby otherwise you will buy a large bottle which is and unnecessary expense. On arrival you will pay 4 euros per night per room tourist tax. You can pay by card. There is a safe in the room, but that will cost you 5 euros per day, which is expensive but you have n choice if you want a safe. You can pay this by card too. However, there is a 10 euro key deposit that you will have to pay in cash, but get beck on return of the safe key. The staff speak excellent English, and are polite, professional and friendly. They always have a smile on their face, from house keeping to bar staff to reception. The free wifi was good and available everywhere around the hotel. There are two pools with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. We never had trouble obtaining a sunbed with an umbrella, and 'towels at dawn wars' just wasn't a thing. The sunbeds are a decent quality. The tiles around the pool can be slippery with wet feet though. I didn't see anyone fall, but there is aslope from one pool to the other which needs to be taken with care. We were not provided with a pool/beach towel (probably as we were self catering), so you'll need to take them. If you're 'all inclusive', the towels may be provided - I'm not sure. The hotel is in a great location! Very close to a beach, and coastline walks. In one direction there's a lighthouse (which is a restaurant with sunset views) and in the other there's a nature reserve. Both worth a walk. There a little supermarkets nearby. If you walk over a little bridge just outside the hotel, you will see a supermarket about 50 metres away. That one has a small bakery for fresh rolls, bread, baguettes and pastries. We were self catering so used this bakery every day. The marina is on the hotel's doorstep. There are about 20 different restaurants and several bars (with sport showing) around the outside of the marina. Never had a bad meal in any of them. The usual tourist shops are there too. Great for an evening walk and people watching. This is a quiet resort, frequented by more 'mature' couples and young families. There were no all male or all female groups that we saw. We have just returned from a 9 Night stay All inclusive. Location is perfect, gorgeous Marina nearby. Rooms were very spacious, Air con and Shower very good. Beds really comfy. Nice quiet pool area and Jose the bar man, what a guy! So friendly. We went to the main Hotel for all meals, food wasn't the best! Some days were better than others. Mainly catered for the Italians. Entertainment wasn't good at all, all the entertainment team spoke in Italian, nothing in English at all, not very good if you have children with you as only catered for Italian Children. The Italians were very Rude and Ignorant, no Manners whatsoever. All in all we had a great holiday as we stayed over the Apartment side in the day time which is lovely. I think it's fine for anyone doing Self catering but it's just the Dinner Hall experience, too noisy and packed out too, sometimes you had to wait to get a table. Go as soon as it opens is my tip.
