The Seagate

Whether it’s delicious food, advice on the most desirable surfing locations or… potentially, the best espresso martini you’ll ever have, this place certainly needs to move up your list of places to try. Special mention to Jamie the barman.

Excellent, unfortunately for me it was a flying visit I had to return to London the following day, but was truly amazed at the location and kindness and caring of all of the staff. Will definitely be going again back in the spring. Once again I thank everyone.

Lots to like about The Seagate. Great location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast and, it's a pub. Stayed for two nights in a "cosy" double overlooking the water, booked direct via their website. New, very personable, general manager settling in. Location great for exploring Appledore and the surrounding area with interesting places within walking distance. There is even a ferry service across to Instow, tide permitting. Locally made Hocking's ice cream available from the van parked opposite but only until the end of October. Notes for the future: Sea view rooms 1, 2 & 3 are above the outdoor seating area so vulnerable to smoke and noise during opening hours (it's a pub). Also there are two bus stops immediatley outside. Some early hours noise and the potential for some overlooking from the double deckers if you have the curtains / blinds open. Needed some help with an uneven bed (old building with sloping floors), coffee machine instructions and a newer hair dryer. All except the bed dealt with swiftly and with good humour. We would have appreciated a slightly larger room but wanted the sea view and booked the "cosy" option. That said, I highly recommend The Seagate as a base to explore Appledore and the surrounding area.
