The Fisherbeck

We arrived on the Friday evening and everywhere was in darkness and there was no-one there. We called all the emergency numbers provided but there was no answer! We eventually discovered our room was over the road in a lodge! On getting up to our room we found there was no teaspoons for our drinks, no hand wash in the bathroom , mould all round the edge of the shower tray and the toilet was blocked . Due to staff shortages we were told that there would be no breakfasts and no bar and were only offered £30 refund for the 2 nights in exchange for no breakfast!!! Awful place, will not be back…… though on the positive side the bed was comfy and it was an easy 10 minute walk into the centre of Ambleside!

Originally booked for the Ambleside Apartments, we arrived an hour after the earliest check-in time to discover that the apartment was not ready as the bathroom was broken. Called the Fisherbeck, which manages the Apartments, and they eventually offered us a room in The Log House, which is opposite the hotel, and complimentary drinks to compensate for the inconvenience We lost an hour of our evening in the resolution of this problem. The Log House is a quirky building converted into several separate apartments. These are rather brashly appointed with low quality modern fittings, some already showing signs of wear and tear. We were in R31, which has a single window but too high up to give a view. This gives the room something of a cell like quality. Sound insulation is poor, we could hear next door's television clearly. The bed initially appeared to be a super king but is, in fact, two rather soft single mattreses side by side made up as one large bed. The buffet breakfast is actually quite good and served until 10.00. Decent quality sausages and bacon, but no choice of eggs. So, in summary, a slightly disappointing experience mitigated by the fact that we didn't pay the full price of a hotel stay. I should add that the lady on the desk in the hotel was very apologetic and did her best to make up for the problems we encountered.

My stay at the hotel was absolutely delightful! The rooms were incredibly spacious, offering plenty of room to relax and unwind. It was a pleasure to find that the hotel is pet-friendly, allowing us to bring our furry friend along for the vacation. The bed was a dream come true, with the most comfortable mattress and pillows that guaranteed a good night's sleep. A huge bonus was the bathtub in the bathroom, which added a touch of luxury to our stay. The breakfast was outstanding and easily the highlight of our mornings. It was my first experience in a hotel where breakfast was served buffet-style, meaning you could eat as much as you wanted. The food was delicious, with a wide variety of options to choose from. The hotel's proximity to the lake and shops was incredibly convenient, making our stay even more enjoyable. The staff was friendly and welcoming, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere throughout our visit. The location was fantastic, allowing easy access to local attractions and amenities. We are already planning to return during the summer holiday season. This hotel has set a new standard for our vacations, and we can't wait to come back!

Extremely disappointed with the hotel. Rooms not as shown or advertised they were run down and cleanliness left a lot to be desired . Looked like they have tried to do some DIY but it looked awful . Rooms not cleaned properly cob webs in all the corners and ceilings , carpet had seen better days and looked dirty . Radiator in bathroom was all marked and rusty Some staff were friendly others not ! Would I stay again absolutely not .

Stayed for five nights. Not the best room servicing for a prolonged stay. Room was never vacuumed and the bed was never made although 3 out of 5 nights the counter Payne was placed across the bottom of the unmade bed, but otherwise the bed wasn’t touched. Bins were changed and new cups given, however the bathroom was not touched at all except for replacement of toilet rolls and the sink wiped only on day four. However new towels were provided on day 4. Before our final night, the coffee machine had been removed on our return to our room and an embarrassed receptionist said we no longer provide coffee machines. Prior to this, we were told we could have replacement coffee pods from reception. Seems odd to remove something that had already been provided for, and we had presumably already paid for. They could’ve waited until we left! Parking is extremely tight on one side of the car park and some residents could not even re-enter their cars unless some cars were removed first. Staff very pleasant. Excellent breakfast Excellent location

Absolutely the worst experience to date! I took my family here including my twin 2 year olds and my child nearly fell from the window. The windows was like mini doors they opened wide! There was supposed to be rails across them but on one of the windows this was broke, luckily I heard them messing and ran in to find them near the window another second later they would of been dead! I spoke to management who was so so aggressive and rude to me, telling me my child shouldn’t be near the window or on the bed, which is absolutely ridiculous I shouldn’t have to be on edge when we go for a night away the room should be made safe! The noise from room to room was so noisy! You could hear everything! And the king size bed we should have had was two singles pushed together with a king thin mattress protector on. I would recommend this place to my worst enemy. Stay clear! I’m in the process of contacting health and safety and trading standards
