The Health Village

This is a truly authentic experience, whether you are a visiting guest or a patient. They offer traditional accommodations, including meals and yoga classes and an Ayurvedic experience option, including doctor consultations and treatments (Ayurvedic medical and bodywork). I stayed there on two occasions- once upon my arrival (first time in India) in early April, then I returned for the all-inclusive patient experience at the end of the month for six days. The staff is very kind, courteous, and efficient and does everything possible to ensure you feel at home. This is not a luxury Ayurvedic resort. Rooms are basic and clean. Emphasis is placed on the medical services and treatments. However, relaxing by the Periyar River is the signature feature of your healing experience outside the treatments. This is an Ayurvedic teaching hospital so you may see interns from all over the world coming for training. The premises have unique wood-carved furniture, herbal plants and trees, and educational resources. As a patient, you are monitored throughout the day with room visits and have access to a night nurse on duty, which is comforting if you are under treatment or if you are suffering from jet lag. Massages and bodywork therapies were very therapeutic-based than spa-type relaxing, but this is the reason you are here - to heal. Try the morning yoga classes and evening meditation on the top floor overlooking the river - truly magical. The food is vegan and served buffet style. Ayurvedic diet is not gluten-free so if you are at least sensitive, ask before eating anything questionable. Upon request and the doctor's recommendations, they can make accommodations for you. I am not a vegetarian and needed to go off-site for a meal or request eggs (which had to be served in my room). This hospital-style retreat is owned by Kerala Ayurveda Ltd which is the parent company of the college from which I received my certification training. This was the primary reason I chose the Health Village but truly all the reviews and observing the happy guests further justified my choice. I plan to return here within a few months for a visit. Wonderful experience. Had significant relief from health symptoms treated. Health Village is in a beautiful location beside the river, quite tropical. Good basic food. Fabulous staff. Doctor spoke enough english but basic english. Like many doctors (also in the west), they are not interested in talking much about the details of your treatment. But then I got good results so I guess that's what it's all about. Rooms were lovely, clean, not 5star by western standard but very good by Indian standards.

Bereits zum 7. Mal reiste ich ins Health Village. Ankommen - Wohlfühlen - Auftanken in einer besonderen Oase! Das Gesundheitsdorf liegt am Periyar River in einem ruhigen Viertel. Im Restaurant gibt es köstliches ayurvedisches Essen zur Auswahl am Buffet. Die ayurvedischen Behandlungen werden täglich von der sehr erfahrenen Ärztin verordnet und von kompetenten Therapeutinnen durchgeführt. Das schon seit Jahren vertraute Personal ist sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit.

I never could have imagined such a wonderful pancha karma treatment! The doctors, nurses, therapists and entire staff were wonderful. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared according to Ayurvedic principles. When we first arrived, we were unsure if we could stay the full 3 weeks without getting restless. It only took a day or two before the combination of treatments and setting took effect and we relaxed into it with utter comfort. There were four of us who came together, and we each got individualized treatments according to our needs. It's a good thing we booked for 3 weeks, because the treatment is gentle, and we needed time for our bodies to respond. By the time our treatment came to an end, we felt wonderful and we never wanted to leave. There were many people there who had come multiple times before and, after staying there and receiving such loving treatment, I could see why. I would love to go back too!

Traitements ayurvédiques efficaces et fort agréables, environnement bucolique près d'une belle rivière, chant des oiseaux, jardin fleuri... ajouter à cela un staff sympathique, chaleureux et efficace : une doctoresse à l'écoute et une équipe de masseuses expertes, un excellent cuisinier : c'est pour cela que depuis 2012 j'y suis revenue presque chaque année.

On the banks of the river Periyar, the village has About 25 odd rooms spread across 3 blocks, each with its own treatment rooms. The doctor, nurses and therapists are while skilled practitioners also very pleasant and attentive. The restaurant has a great chef and support staff where only wholesome vegetarian fare is offered but extremely tasty and one that challenges the palette to describe each dish. The rooms are basic but air conditioned and comfortable enough and cleanliness and hygiene are tops. We made good friends in the informal restaurant atmosphere and s as the treatment ticked several boxes we look forward to returning at least once every year.
