This hote, was located on a dingy street in one of the dirty areas of prayagraj. The price that we paid per night was nothing less than daylight. The room was worth no more than rs 2000/night even including breakfast. To rip off customers to this extent, simply in view of the ongoing kumbh mela, was atrocious. In our opinion, having lent their name and no doubt shared the spoils. Hotel suncity had turned out to be a nondescript building, with an almost unnoticeable nameboard. The reception area was untidy, manned by a scruffy looking person wearing untidy clothes and wearing hawaii chappals (flip flops, and not even a smile on his face (even though it was just 2 pm. He checked us into room no. 403. Even by our expectations that had already been drastically lowered, the room was unimpressive. The bed linen was tolerable but there was no blanket or comforter. Later, we found a single large comforter stuffed into the cupboard. It was smelly and unwashed. The towels were stained but appeared clean. One single piece of soap was all that was provided in the toilet. There was no hot water. The tap in the bath area was not working, only the shower. The toilet did not have a hand spray. While leaving the room a little later, we found the nex room, 402, open. We looked in and found that the room (this toilet had a handspray and the bath tap worked, appeared comparatively tolerable. On requesting the *** at the reception, we were moved to 402. We still did not use the shady looking comforter provided by the hotel, preferring to use blankets that we had carried with us. The dining area located in the basement was accessible only through a dirty, damp staricase. It was actually just a space cleared out adjacent to the kitchen itself. The smell of cooking pervaded the poorly lit ambience. The food, to be fair, was reasonably good in terms of taste, even though it felt curiously like street food. We did not risk inspecting the kitchen lest even whatever impression remained evaporate. The *** at the reception made out a lengthy bill for breakfast when we checked out later. When reminded that breakfast had been included in the room rate, he hesitated doubtfully and then relented. Even as we checked out, a few people came up to the reception and requested a room to just wash up and shower. The *** at the reception did not comply, most likely because we were right there listening. We suspect that in the normal course they let out rooms on short term basis, making some money on the side. be careful when including such establishments. It is a blot on their reputation and, to be frank, next time we shall make it a point to check other booking before deciding where to stay.
