Tasmania Village

Basic accommodation in lovely area. Clean and spacious, but no microwave and few utensils. Our real grievance was that TUI had advertised this as an apartment with sofa bed in the lounge. In fact it was a single room (studio) which was NOT what we wanted or expected. Be warned that supermarkets, restaurants etc are a 25 minute walk in either direction. (However they do sell bottled water on site at a reasonable price). Also that the incline to the upper accommodation is VERY steep. We didn't use the bar or pool, so can't comment on these.

Just returned few days ago from a 2 week stay in the tasmania village....we have stayed in Elounda many times but our first time in tasmania village .....well what can I say ... Maria. George and their son Yianni are the friendliest ,most welcoming hosts....nothing ever too much trouble for them. Their apartments are the most spacious we have ever stayed in and although they are located on a steep hill, every step is worth it for the fabulous view ... We stayed in no 35 which was right at the top of the hill ....we had a large living area/ kitchenette ...had everything you needed . Plus a large bedroom with a door leading out onto the balcony , which was huge ... lovely to sit out on the morning for breakfast and coffee and in the evening .... We met lots of people who were return visitors and new visitors alike ....Maria and George treated everyone exactly the same ....loving to have a chat with everyone. Thank u Maria , George and Yianni for a fantastic 2 weeks . Hopefully we will see you again next year

Hmmm pros: Typical basic Greek accommodation with probably the best equipped self catering facilities/kitchen I've ever seen. Yes the accommodation is on a hill but the views are spectacular of spinalonga and so forth. The accommodation is approximately 20-25 minutes walk to elounda and 35-40 minutes to plaka. I walked both every day and felt perfectly safe as a lone female traveller. Cons The room wasn't cleaned the whole 9 days I was there with the bins emptied once. As we all know , in Greece you can't flush anything down the toilet so to have overflowing bins of urine/faeces tissue and sanitary products is unacceptable. I work very hard for my holidays, I don't go away to empty bins and clean! The temperature was 30 degrees by day and mid 20s at night. There was not a chair in the room so the bed became sweaty and grubby very quickly. As my room was purely a base to sleep and wash, returning at 7pm after a full day exploring was disheartening to say the least. Complained to jet 2 as I didn't find the owner approachable, due to overhearing her and the returning repeat visiting clique slagging off other tourists and former staff. As a "goodwill gesture" for tolerating unemptied bins, dirty sheets and towels, i wws allowed to keep the room on as a complimentary goodwill gesture on my last day. However as it was so grubby I this left a bitter taste in my mouth I enjoyed my trip overall getting buses, boats and the tourist train to explore Crete however I would not recommend or return to this accommodation purely for the lack of cleaning.
