After a week on Paros we moved to Naxos & we spent 12 happy days & evenings in Agia Anna at Hotel Despina - family of four (two boys aged 10 & 13). We had a great spacious room with interconnecting doors which gave lots of space for the kids to have their own room at night. A/C was very efficient in both rooms. The family run hotel is in a very good location less than 5 minutes walk to the beautiful beach and right next to a bus stop (buses are regular & reliable to local resorts and Naxos town and port). Units are basic self catering, as advertised, but fine for our needs, with a fridge and kettle etc. as I do NOT enjoy cooking when I’m on holiday (!) we eat out (apart from breakfast which we buy at the bakery/ have fruit etc). At any rate there’s a mini market which has fresh baked goods every morning is a few steps across the road as is an ATM. Maria and her extended family take great pride in their amazing hotel & it is one of the cleanest places we’ve ever stayed. Beds were comfy and cleaning was done every other day with sheets/towels etc which is great & more than our expectations. The communal areas snd garden are well tended and pretty flowers etc and the whole place feels very homely & relaxing. It is clear that Maria & her family take great care and pride in their business & in looking after their guests. We felt so welcome. Our boys said it was the best holiday they’ve ever had! Agia Anna itself was perfect for our needs, small & friendly with organised beach areas and great cafes and restaurants - lively enough for parents to enjoy a few cocktails and yet low key enough that it feels like a very safe family resort. A leisurely 15 min walk up to agios prokopis provided more restaurants/shops etc. but we spent most of our time in Agia Anna - kids did some beginner PADI dives with NIMA dive centre (also highly recommend this place). It was our first trip to Naxos and we fell in love with the island - and Despina hotel was a great, affordable and happy base for us to spend our holiday!
